Getting Rid of Fleas in Your Home

Are you getting frustrated and are at wits end trying to solve your flea problem? Well, I have got good news for you. You are not alone in combating what seems to be an insurmountable flea problem. Thousands of people have battled with fleas and eventually, they manage to get rid of fleas, be it in their home, garden, themselves or on their pets.

Here are some important tips on how to get rid of fleas:

1. Vaccum Religiously

Every morning, when my sister wakes up, she vaccums religiously to keep on top of the flea problem.Fleas love areas that don't get much sunlight, so you should take particular notice of areas that are dark and cool.In conjunction with vaccuming, you may want to sprinkle salt or baking soda on your carpet. If you keep vaccuming frequently, this will help you keep on top of the flea infestation. Make sure you remove the vaccum bag and throw out the content.Otherwise, the fleas many still hang around the house.

2. Steam Cleaning

To reinforce the effect of steam cleaning, get your carpets steam cleaned. Unknown to most people, steam cleaning is quite effective in killing the flea in all its stages.A cheaper option you can use is to shampoo your carpet with insecticidal carpet shamppi which is equally effective in killing fles in all stages.

3.Humidifiers

AS fleas thrive in environment of high humidity, having a good  humidifier  in the house will help to keep the fleas away as it will reduce the humidity in the house. To work effectively, you should work towards reducing the humidity level in your home to less than 50%.

4. Insecticide

Spray insecticide such as Mortein in all areas of your house, especially in carpets, soft curtains and your pets's bed.Don't forget to spray under your bed as well, bearing in mind that fleas love dark places that are not exposed to sunlight. Choose insecticide that includes Insect Growth Regulator which restricts the growth of fleas. To maximise the effect of the Insect Growth Regulator, do not vaccum for 2 weeks after your spraying.

If you discover that the fleas are also living in your yard, feel free to use the same spray to tackle the fleas outside as well.

5.Diatomaceous earth

You can also apply Diatomaceous earth on your carpets and pet bedding, which prevents the larvae from growing into adults. As Diatomaceous earth should not be ingested or inhaled, be sure to remove your pet from the area when applying Diatomaceous earth. Leave the V=Diatomaceous earth for a few hours after application before being removed.
